Evangelical Waldensian Hospital

In 1843, when the protestant congregation of Turin could worship only under the protection of the British League, the «Casa delle Legazioni» (House of Embassies), was founded as a hospital for the protestant population. After various solutions, the facility in via Berthollet was inaugurated in 1871. It was designed by Architect Luigi Formento according to the new health regulations of the time. Throughout the next century the hospital underwent various renovations, bringing the building and the medical equipment up to date. Numerous expansions were built on, and in 1969 it was certified as the General Hospital for the area. While maintaining its legal independence, it was included in the regional social health plan. In 1998 it was integrated into the Commission of Waldensian Hospital Institutions (CIOV) along with the hospitals in Torre Pellice and Pomaretto; in 2004 it was ceded to the Piedmont Regional government.
