Publisher Editrice Claudiana

The founding of the publishing house, Editrice Claudiana was fundamental to the Protestant churches’ project of evangelization that had begun in 1848: it was crucial for printing their own books and distributing pamphlets, journals and theological essays to spread the message of the Gospel. In 1855, the «Société des Traités religieux pour l’Italie» was founded in Torre Pellice and later established in Turin. After an early period of exclusively distributing religious books, in 1858 the Société began printing, using machinery donated by churches in Ireland. It took on the name «Claudiana» as homage to Claudio I, bishop of Turin. In 1862 the publishing house was moved to Florence and the Société was replaced by the «Italian Evangelical Publication Society» (IEPS). After operating in Torre Pellice for a while (1925-1959), Claudiana became a full-fledged institution of the Waldensian church, returning to Turin in 1960, where it is located to this day.
