RECORD
Swiss Reformed Church, Palazzo di Bianca Cappello
In 1826, Palazzo di Bianca Cappello was the chosen as the first chapel of the Swiss Reformed Church: the building has been named after the first mistress and then the wife of Francesco I de’ Medici. Meetings in private homes had started in 1822, and soon the need for a chapel arose. However, as it was not Roman Catholic, it placed itself under the protection of the Kingdom of Prussia and, at least on paper, remained listed as a private chapel.
It became the first Protestant place of worship to be opened in Florence: the hall was used until 1833 and from 1828, it was shared with the British Anglican Church congregation. In 1852 the Reformed Church moved to via de’ Serragli and then, in 1852, several more moves later, ended up in Lungarno Guicciardini 9 (currently Number 17), in a chapel on the first floor of Palazzo Adami.
Currently the Swiss Reformed Church shares the space with the Lutheran Church.
