Palazzo Adami

In 1759, the Englishman by the name of Charles Hadfield, father of Maria Cosway, an English painter and educationalist, had opened an inn in the building that was renowned among foreign travellers, especially British, at least until the 1780s.

In the centuries that followed it was to became the residence of Jacopo Adami, commander of Fortezza da Basso and of engineer Guido Adami Lami (1869-1911), a race driver and car manufacturing pioneer and founder of the La Rondine car manufacturer in 1899.

After 1851, the section looking onto Lungarno Guicciardini housed the Swiss Reformed Church in a space on the first floor according to the wishes of the owner, Margherita Jack. A monumental flight of steps led to the three nave hall was used by the congregation until 1936, when it then moved to the neighbouring building with the Scottish Church. Currently they meet at the Lutheran Church.
