The last stage of our journey through Protestant Florence once again takes us to Via dei Serragli and more precisely to the historic Palazzo Salviati. Currently the headquarters of the Waldensian Foresteria (Guesthouse)  in Florence, the building housed the Waldensian Faculty of Theology from 1861 to 1922. Giovanni Luzzi (1856-1948), Pastor and professor of theology during the early twentieth century is the person who is most closely identified with this building. In the early twentieth century, he conceived the project for an Italian translation of the Bible from the original texts, intended to be the result of accurate exegesis using the historical-critical method, keeping away from confessional disputes and which is why it was also widely recognised by Roman Catholic too. At first he revised Diodati’s Italian translation of the Bible dating back to the seventeenth century, then, from 1906 began the translation which he would devote the next 25 years of his life to.
